However, the Vltor Modstock series is criminally overlooked in modern impressions. Is it the cost, the look, or something else?
Today we have the newest iterations of the Modstock series, the EMOD and IMOD. The first iteration – the Carbine Modstock – arrived in the early 2000’s so the design has been going for some time.
It has, however, gone through some changes, with the newest models exhibiting rubber butt pads. The toe of the pad is longer than the original Modstock and angled forwards. This means rolling the stock into your shoulder from the ready position is a lot more comfortable. That angled toe is now a feature of quite a few cutting edge stocks.
Vltor’s toe-angle update happened in 2010.
In fact, Magpul lags behind the pack in this respect. It’s only relatively recently that they adopted this configuration, starting with the MOE SL and SL-K. They are great stocks, but why so late to the party?
