Aside from Dee Snider, all the cool guys are known by their first names.
Søren is no stranger to The Reptile House Blog and I’ve admired his blasters for many years.
He doesn’t like blowing his own trumpet, though, so I was as surprised as I was pleased when he said OK to a new collaboration.
Søren – welcome back to the blog! Things have changed since we last spoke, but as usual I like what I’m seeing.
Tell me about the unit and era you’ve chosen for your current loadout. What attracted you away from your previous impression?
I’ve always had a fascination with CAG/Delta Force so that’s what I’m doing and I find the 2006-2008 era gear the most interesting.
Mainly because they had to be more creative and come up with alot of solutions along the way.
I guess that’s why I went back to the old gear.
Your Paraclete rig particularly reminds me of a time before Crye, when impressions were a lot less homogenous:
Talk me through your gear choices.
I’ve had several HPC’s but never been fully satisfied with the fit and I found the RAV too big and cumbersome so I ended up with two different CVC’s.
The tan one has a RACK attached and is set up for a team leader role. And it’s of course very inspired by the Spooner pictures.
The other and newest rig is a heavily modified Smoke Green CVC with the cummerbund from an HPC and serves as a straight up assaulter rig.
The groin protector is a piece of gear that I’ve really grown fond of as it allows me to have an easily accessible IFAK, flashbangs or pistol mags without taking up the space on the vest.
And no, it doesn’t hit my nuts when I run 🙂
You’re famous for your paint jobs…
…but your current look is pretty much paint-free.
I love the look of a painted blaster and the only reason I cleaned it up was to make it fit the era.
Like many of us, you are details-orientated.
Last year you highlighted receiving a KAC QD adaptor for your stock; I know that feeling!
Aside from this and the awesome black PEQ 15 which caught my eye, are there any other details you want to point out?
Hmm. The war torn generation 1 Redimag, the old style VTAC sling that I got off a Danish Jaeger and the vertical split ring that holds the light.
I think they are good details.
Tell me about that masterclass of a ‘ghetto’ vertical fore grip.
The gangster grip with the buttons came from several pictures and is made entirely of RS parts.
The red button controls the PEQ 15 and the black goes to the light.
I included an on/off switch at the bottom to prevent it from draining the light when stored in a rifle case/bag.
I particularly liked the way you used a Kryptek palette on a blaster from last year, without resorting to painstaking masking. It worked out really well:
Do you still get asked to weave your Krylon magic on team mates’ blasters?
I still paint guns for my friends 🙂
I’m a big fan of the 416’s form factor. Is it just part of the swag for you, or is there something you prize about the 416 too?
The 416 is what they used/use so it’s a part of the gear.
I actually like the old MRE better because of the length but… Well 😊
Lastly, I enjoy your pics of metal vinyl LPs on IG and we own some of the same records.
Why vinyl?
Awesome!!! Thank you 😊.
As with gear, I like the old stuff and collecting vinyl and refurbishing /building old turntables makes me happy 😄
A massive, massive thanks to Søren who turned this article around so fast, I found it hard to keep up! An absolute star!
Thanks again, mate 🙂
