There are not enough SFWs out there. Beautiful in their simplicity and minimalism, yet a rare choice – even in the country where the RS finds its home.

Here’s an awesome example, which my friend Andy tipped me off about – thanks Andy.

James will tell you all about it:

“My PTW started life back in 2008 as a standard M4A1.
Since then the lower has been changed over to an SCK, which was custom engraved and lightly sprayed for a dusty effect. A CAR15 type stock was ordered from Powair6.”

“Having dislocated my shoulder last year, I needed a light weight carbine. My only other gun at the time was an Echo 1 GPMG custom. To reduce weight, I replaced the outer barrel of my M4A1 with an FCC aluminium multi length pencil profile barrel. I bought an L119 barrel extension and the rifle was starting to take shape as a true UKSF spec assault rifle, that was light enough for my shoulder to manage.”

“The pistol grip was replaced with a G&P Storm Grip (Powair6 once again supplying this).

I was quite happy with the rifle at this stage, but it wasn’t quite right yet. All I needed was a reinforced front sight. Warlord Tactical (only available via Facebook) are a little known manufacturer of some really quite sought after parts. They supplied my GBB front sight at a reduced price, on the understanding that I would tell them how it needed to be modified to fit a PTW and I’m glad I invested. At around £30 plus shipping fees, they aren’t the cheapest option, but if you want an authentic Diemaco front sight, it’s the only way to go.

The modifications consisted of a simple filing down of the grooves in the barrel (for the pins) and it was a perfect fit.”

“So what’s next for the build?

A CQBR upper is going to be built from the spares left from my 416 build and a genuine magpul CTR stock is definitely on the cards.

Despite all the external mods, the only change internally in 5 years has been to shorten the board and convert it to deans – to make using lipo batteries possible”
