I used Nitromors on the rail. It’s really messy and I don’t recommend it for anything you can’t submerge in water, to clean it off. So I wouldn’t use it to do a lower, for instance. I’d also not use it anywhere near plastics, just in case. Volatile solvents are harder work, but at least they leave little if any residue.
Luckily it’s easy to detach a 416 rail. It’s so well designed. Just remove the bolt which secures the rail to the barrel nut and pull the rail off. Replacing the rail is just as easy – you just do the reverse. No timing is required because HK thought of that. There’s a tongue and groove system between upper and rail. Ingenious.
