KDM has announced this evening that the current version of its AHUS has been downgraded to beta release status. They commented on their Facebook page as follows:
You may remember that I was quite excited to purchase a Kastman hop and I intended to follow it up with a full review. Unfortunately I realised upon assembly that there were compatibility issues with the barrel I’d bought to use with it and the hop chamber lacked certain internal features which, in any case, I felt would lead to feeding issues.
So, immediately it failed an important test because one of the selling points was compatibility with the AEG barrel of your choice.
I chose not to blog my findings immediately, because as the narrative developed it became clear that KDM wouldn’t continue to market the hop as a finished product.
I think today’s announcement is a brave one and I wish KDM every success in future releases.
You may say, “You seem to be taking the loss of £100 on the hop and £60 on the Orga barrel OK, not to mention the money spent on hop rubbers and shipping?”
I suppose I’ve paid to learn a big lesson in early adoption. Having said that, this episode has refreshed my memory on just how good my Tackleberried OEM hop is. Not only that, but it’s put into perspective just how awesome Tackleberry’s Super Hop is. I can tell you now, the Super Hop will be well worth the wait.
Until then, I’ll stick with Tac’d OEM and the Super Hop prototype I have on long term test.
