Early in 2012 I decided to invest in Prime receivers. I was inspired by conversations with Tony (Tackleberry) and Stu (Project PTW) and by Alan, Brad, Jason and Jensen’s gats in their PTWs in Hawaii thread on the Systema PTW Forum.

If you haven’t seen it the thread, it’s well worth a look.

I ordered from Boom Arms. It’s a pretty shonky website, but it does the job.

I went through their PayPal checkout and got at email in the next day or so, with a tracking number. Delivery was very quick – about a week – and I only paid for standard Hong Kong post, not EMS.

The LMT receivers came in plain white boxes:

Not a huge amount of packing in either box, but it must have done the job as everything was intact:

It’s difficult to describe how much nicer the Prime set is, compared to the OEM Systema receiver set. Firstly, the Prime set is CNC, which lends a certain edge, but the surface finishing is also top notch. I don’t know how it’s finished, but it’s very appealing and I can certainly see why Prime is the gold standard.

However, this may not be the finish for those of you who like to keep your receivers clean looking and new. The finish tarnishes easily and seems to retain oil from fingerprints. I like that about it, as I prefer a used look – as long as its me that’s provided the use.

Depending on what light you see the set in, it’s either really dark – almost black – or grey, as depicted above. I prefer lighter than darker, but as I say, the surface is able to resemble either – oddly.

Below is the Prime Knights Armament SR16 E3 – which has an ambi mag release mechanism and QD sling swivel ports built into the lower. Neither of which I’ll ever use.

Main selling point was the awesome trades…
